I purchased a Jackson Coosa FD kayak late this summer.vThis kayak has a pedal drive system that features a self-retracting propeller making it ideal for kayaking in shallow water where you may encounter rocks or logs that could damage a typical pedal kayak prop. While the self-retracting prop is nice, the rudder system is very small to also accommodate shallow water kayaking. As a result I found the kayak did not track very straight and required me to be constantly keeping my hand on the rudder control(s) to keep the kayak on track.
I decided to design and fabricate my own self-retracting rudder which would give me more control but still allow me to fish and kayak in shallow water.
